Excision [REVIEW]

Can you contract an STD from having sex with a dead person? – Pauline

Sometimes I rabidly await a movie and read excessively about it before it’s release (Freddy VS Jason, The Lords of Salem, The Tall Man). Other times I just say why not and check something out with very little knowledge of how good it will be, the cast or anything beyond a simple short paragraph of summary. Such was the case with Excision. All I knew was Annalynne McCord played a some what frumpy/unsexy highschool outcast named Pauline who wants to be a surgeon. Little did I know I was in for thrills, chills, laughs and oodles of gore. Not to mention all kinds of mad awesome cameos! Traci Lords (yes HER) plays Pauline’s Mom. Roger Bart (Stuart from Hostel Part II) plays her dad and Ariel Winters (the super smart middle daughter from Modern Family) plays her sister who suffers from cystic fibrosis. Rounding out the cast with cameos: Malcom McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Caligula, Rob Zombie’s Halloween) as the asshole physics teacher. Mathew Gray Gubler (Criminal Minds) with mustache teaching sex ed. Marlee Matlin (Children of a Lesser God) making me shoot milk out my nose in one of the funniest moments in the flick. And God Father of filth JOHN WATERS! As a PRIEST?!

Annalynne as Pauline is all kinds of perfect. Chewing up the scenery as the frumpy acne riddled Pauline or in the dreamy gory sex dreams that seem part John Waters part Cronenberg and part Rob Zombie where she channels her sex bomb persona. Equal parts hilarious, heart wrenching and horrifying we should all expect BIG things from Richard Bates Jr. I got a similar feeling from when I first saw Lucky McKee’s May. I highly recommend the movie which is out on DVD on the 16th.
